Day 338 Intention ~ Hang In There

Day 338 Intention ~ Hang In There

Still getting over a cold. Luckily, I had the past two days mostly off...one class Monday evening. Today, I have 3 throughout the day and I have to admit, I feel tired and spacey. I am trying to keep strong and energetic and motivated, but it's not really happening.

Hanging in there, doing my best. That is all I can do.

I hope that you all are doing well on this Wednesday afternoon.

Til tomorrow...

Day 336 Intention ~ Grant Permission

Day 336 Intention ~ Grant Permission

To myself...to be a little lazy today. I woke up with some congestion in my chest and a lack of energy and motivation.
I have been lounging around all day pretty much, but can't shake feeling guilty about it. I always have stuff to take care of, but I need to grant myself permission to be a little lazy. Save my energy for the one class I have this evening.

My body is asking for rest, so give it some!

Why do we beat ourselves up for taking a break?!?!

So, sorry, lame post today, but I am off to lounge for a couple more hours before heading back off into the land of sun salutations and warrior series.

Til tomorrow (when I have more energy)...

Shanti,

Marcia

Day 328 Intention ~ Honor How My Body Feels Today

Day 328 Intention ~ Honor How My Body Feels Today

I say that in class all the time to students. One of the wonderful lessons of the physical yoga practice is that you learn to hear what your body is trying to tell you each time.

You also become more aware off the mat.

Today, I feel run down. Exhausted, physically and mentally. So, although yesterday's intention was to follow through with plans, we didn't go to the Browns game as planned. I rested by the fire, under a down blanket & dozed on and off all day long. Just what I needed. (And the game was horrific anyhow!)

So, learn to pay attention to what you physically need. We tend to push ourselves to do everything...too much...all of the time and this can not only wear us out, but can make us sick.

Save yourself! Listen and do what your body says to do. Honor that vessel while you are here on Earth.

Til tomorrow...

Marcia

Day 266 Intention ~ Just Do What You (I) Can

Day 266 Intention ~ Just Do What You (I) Can

Back to reality. There is a list of things that need to be done, but, of course, I am feeling lazy & tired...and dare I say, a little hungover. We had a great time in Cincinnati yesterday. The hotel was fabulous, the people in town were super friendly, Oktoberfest was going on and the show was great.

So, today, although I am tired, I am just doing what I can to get the things I need for tomorrow finished. No rushing, not really worrying about it. If I stress, the work becomes shoddy and I feel badly. So, just do what I can...that's all anyone can ask anyhow, right?

Til tomorrow...

Day 228 Intention ~ Don't Overdo It

Day 228 Intention ~ Don't Overdo It

It's Friday. I have a rare Saturday off tomorrow. So exciting!
But, alas, I am tired. Today was a busy day starting at 6 a.m. and pretty much running solid til I got home at 6:45 this evening.

Some new friends have an opening party for their store tonight and of course I want to support them. I always want to think I can do everything all the time, but tonight my goal is to not overdo it. It's enough to show up and support and then head back home.

Listening to my body and my mind and allowing myself to rest when it is necessary. That is how to stay healthy. Friday night or not, I am tired!

Day 196 Intention ~ Keep My Word

Day 196 Intention ~ Keep My Word

Home sweet home. After a fun yet exhausting work trip, I just wanted to curl up & go to sleep. But I told my Monday night students that if I got back in time, we would have class. I like to follow through & do what I say I am going to do.

Although I was tired and ready to sleep, in the end, I am glad I kept my word & followed through.

Day 195 Intention ~ Sleep Tight

Day 195 Intention ~ Sleep Tight

Sounds simple I'm sure, but being on the road in strange beds without my husband makes for funny abnormal sleep. Jen & I worked our butts off in the heat & drove a lot and it just takes it out of a person. One short leg to go before we get home. But for now, I am going to drift off to sleep so ththat I am not zombie-like for my husband tomorrow when I see him.

Day 169 Intention ~ Let It Pass

Day 169 Intention ~ Let It Pass

I have been so spacey and tired the last couple of days. Maybe it's the summer sun, maybe it's not. Working a lot I'm sure is part of it, but it's not like my days are full on 8 straight hours with a 30 minute lunch break, but I have been working every single day.

I usually go to bed 30 minutes to an hour before my husband, so I can read & well, just plain get a little quiet time as I drift off into dreamland. The past few days, John has been coming upstairs with mean and turning the t.v. on. This usually completely ruins my ability to fall asleep, but not the past few days. My head hits the pillow and I am out.
In the mornings, I want to keep hitting the snooze button and continue sleeping. It's not as if I am not getting enough sleep, I get 7-8 hours a night...at least.

So, I am not sure what this sluggishness is the past few days, or this spaciness, or just plain laziness, but for now, I am going to let it go and hopefully it'll pass. If not, then I will worry a little.

For now, where's that rajas when I need it?!?!

Til tomorrow...

Marcia

Day 155 Intention ~ Soak In The Practice

Day 155 Intention ~ Soak in the practice

There are just those days...I woke up in a fog, wondering how on earth I was going to teach class, feeling a little grumpy and out of it.

Then, I practiced asana. It was just a quick hour long practice, but, man oh man, what a difference. Getting the blood flowing, moving around, breathing, and just letting the outside world go for that short time makes the day turn around completely.

I know that I've said this before, but I will say it again. Those days that you feel stressed or tired, or just plain don't feel like practicing are the most important times to practice. You will feel better, more relaxed and even more energetic to get all those things done that you need to do. Even if it is only 5 sun salutation a's & 5 sun b's...do it!

Practice, practice, practice! You'll be glad you did.

Til tomorrow...

Shanti,

Marcia

Day 148 Intention ~ Work, Rest, Work, Rest...

Day 148 Intention ~ Work, Rest, Work, Rest...

Apparently I am pretty exhausted from all the excitement of the holiday weekend & am finding that I've needed to switch from work to rest, back to work and then rest again all day long.
I suppose this could lead into a discussion about balance in one's life or listening to what my body is requesting, but the reality is, I have work to do, but I'm tired. Therefore, instead of work and play, today, it is work and rest...in short shifts for each.

Sorry, but that is it for today!

Til tomorrow...

Day 144 Intention ~ Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Day 144 Intention ~ Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

There are times when I get worked up over something that, really, in the whole scheme of things, is just not a big deal.
There are many factors that can lead to this reaction: lack of sleep, if I ate junk food, if I have pms or an argument with someone I love, and many many more.

Last night, I had one of these moments. I got myself worked up over a little thing because I was overtired and didn't want to be inconvenienced.

In the light of day, all is fine and everything has worked out. But, I still really don't like when I react that way to things. When it does happen, it means it's time for me to take a step back and really think about what's going on around me. It's usually something else bothering me or causing me to feel frustrated.

So, think before you react. And really, don't sweat the small stuff! It's never worth it.
